Job description: Biologist, Next Generation Sequencing Unit
NMS is a research based Italian company dedicated to the discovery and development of new targeted drugs for the treatment of cancer.
In order to strengthen its genomic approaches for the molecular characterization of tumors and the identification of markers of sensitivity to the new drugs under development, NMS is seeking an enthusiastic and talented biologist to work in its Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Unit.
Responsibilities
- Drive the implementation of a new NGS laboratory, reporting to the Head of the NGS Unit.
- Perform molecular biology activities for the generation of NGS data, including RNA/DNA purification from clinical and preclinical (tumor cell lines) biological samples, constructing libraries, and performing DNA and RNA sequencing and other genomic applications.
- Provide state of the art core services and guidance to NMS researchers on experimental design and best method or technology to address a particular scientific question.
- Interact with bioinformaticians in the lab as well as with the multidisciplinary teams of NMS.
- Proactively monitor technological developments and new genomic applications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or equivalent, with at least three years of experience in the field from academic or industrial sectors.
- Deep knowledge and extensive hands on laboratory experience in molecular biology and/or human genetic analysis.
- Experience in generating Next Generation Sequence data with participation in at least one NGS project, preferably in the Oncology field.
- Experience with Microarray technology is a plus.
- Flexible and willing to work across multiple projects and technologies in a rapidly evolving scientific context.
- Excellent communication skills in English and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and ability to innovate.
The job location will be at the NMS site in Catania.
