Prof. Antonio De Flora guest at the Oncology Seminars at Nerviano Medical Sciences
Nerviano, November 7 - Antonio De Flora, Full Professor of Biochemistry at the Medical School of the University of Genova
, has visited Nerviano Medical Sciences and, within the Oncology Seminar Series, he has presented his work concerning "The CD38/NAD+/Cyclic ADP-ribose/intracellular calcium signalling pathway: mechanisms and new agonists".
Antonio De Flora is a Full Professor of Biochemistry at the
Medical School of the
University of
Genova since 1973 and since 1987 he is the delegate of the
Genova University at the Interuniversity Consortium on Biotechnology. During his career he has directed the
Institute of
Biochemistry and the Biology Unit at the
University of Genova and he was elected member of several boards and committees including the National Research Council (C.N.R.), the E.U. and the International Affairs of M.U.R. In 1997 he won the City of
Genova Prize for Science. Since 2006 he has been President of the
Advanced Biotechnology Center in Genova and since 2007 Vice-President and President-elect of the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He is author of over 200 papers and of 10 patents.
Together with his Unit at the
Center of Excellence for Biomedical Research in Genova, Antonio De Flora works on the following major research lines:
-
Regulation of calcium homeostasis and of calcium-dependent cell functions via autocrine and paracrine mechanisms. -
Analysis and characterisation of GDP-L-fucose metabolism and of its uptake and utilization inside the Golgi apparatus. -
Structural characterization and qualitative-quantitative determination of biological molecules.
