At NMS, from the Discovery phase onwards our aim is to transform the way in which cancer is treated and contribute towards making cancer a more manageable disease. The company quest is therefore devoted to the understanding of cancer mechanisms instrumental in the definition of novel approaches to and treatment of this disease.
 
Our mission is to identify innovative agents suitable for clinical development in areas of unmet medical needs in Oncology.
 
The use of a conceptual approach to drug discovery in Oncology implies the designing of small molecule inhibitors of key proteins of proven relevance in tumour growth. To this concern, the company has gained considerable experience in the field of protein kinases, known to play a key role in the deregulated cell cycle progression and signal transduction of cancer cells.

In this perspective, Oncology R&D is a fully integrated group in which the researchers involved in drug discovery and clinical development activities operate in close collaboration in a stimulating professional environment.

In particular, this teamwork makes it possible to speed up the process that aims at the discovery and development of new anticancer drugs with a significant impact on the treatment of cancer, increasing the likelihood of success in overcoming the disease.
 
Preclinical Research

The Discovery unit consists of a fully integrated team of chemists and biologists.
This group, comprised of more than 200 researchers, also participates in projects on an international scale, which involve some of the top scientists and in areas that range from target validation to the identification of chemical modulators, to the first phases of preclinical development.
Preclinical activities are carried out in collaboration with Accelera S.r.l..
