Arturo Falaschi guest at the Oncology Seminars at Nerviano Medical Sciences
Nerviano, July 18 - Prof. Arturo Falaschi, from the Scuola Normale Superiore c/o Istituto di Fisiologia Clinica CNR in
Pisa, has visited Nerviano Medical Sciences and, within the Oncology Seminar Series, he has presented his work concerning "Mode and dynamics of protein-DNA interactions at a human replication origin".
After his degree in Medicine in 1957 in
Milan and his post doctoral studies with Dr J. Adler and Dr H.G. Khorana in
Wisconsin,
USA, and later with Nobel Laureate Dr. A. Kornberg at Stanford, Arturo Falaschi was elected Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Pavia (1966-1979) and Director of the Institute for Biochemical and Evolutionary Genetics of the C.N.R. (Italian National Research Council) in
Pavia (1970-1987). He directed the Graduate School of Genetics of the
University of Pavia (1978-1984). In 1987 he became Head of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in
Trieste and, in 1989, passed to his current post as Director General of the same. From 1999 he is a member of the Executive Council of the Italian CNR. From 2004, Professor of Molecular Biology at the Scuola Normale Superiore in
Pisa and Distinguished Scientist at ICGEB. From 2005 to 2007, Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific International Molecular Biology Network,
Seoul, Korea.
From 2007, Rector of International Centre for Science and High Technology UNIDO.
His present scientific interests are the identification and characterization of DNA replication origins in human cells and of the proteins functionally interacting with them, including human DNA helicases. He is author of over 130 publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
